THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO SCRUBBER DRYER: THE MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Scrubber dryers are essential for businesses to keep their floors clean, dry, and safe for employees, customers, and the business process. The beauty of floor scrubbers is that they can deeply clean floor space with a detergent solution, followed by powerful drying action, all in the same machine. This reduces downtime, ensuring your business can keep going on the shop floor, whether cleaning up an accidental mess or doing regularly scheduled maintenance cleaning.

IPC scrubber dryers are incredibly reliable and durable, but as with all cleaning equipment, they require regular maintenance to keep functioning at top levels. If you are experiencing any trouble with one of our floor cleaning machines, check out our FAQ below to see if you can resolve the problem quickly.

  1. Why doesn’t the scrubber dryer switch on?
  2. Why does the machine leave scratches on the floor?
  3. Why doesn’t the scrubber dryer clean the floor evenly?
  4. Why doesn’t the battery charge?
  5. Why isn’t the squeegee working?
  6. Why doesn’t the suction work?
  7. Why doesn’t the battery work for the appropriate amount of time?
  8. Why won’t the detergent flow stop?
  9. Why isn’t the brush rotating?

1. Why doesn’t the scrubber dryer switch on?

If the machine does not power up when switched on, check the following:

  • If using a battery-powered scrubber dryer, Is the battery connector disconnected? Are the batteries charged, or flat? The machine may simply need to be charged.
  • If you have a ride-on scrubber dryer, check if the emergency switch is activated.
  • If using cable version of scrubber dryer, check that the plug is connected to a functioning electrical socket.
  • Is the key switch in the off position, and the key is missing? This will prevent the machine from powering up.

2. Why does the machine leave scratches on the floor?

  • The brush or pads may be worn out, causing the plastic disc to scratch the floor. Replace the brushes or pads in this case.
  • The brush or pad type may be too abrasive for your floor type. In this case, switch to a softer brush or pad.

3. Why doesn’t the scrubber dryer clean the floor evenly?

If you notice streaks or unevenly cleaned or dry areas behind the machine after cleaning, your scrubber dryer may need the following maintenance:

  • The main brush may be worn out and need to be replaced.
  • The pad may be worn out and need replacement. Check if the pad holder is touching the floor.
  • If the brush head is damaged, contact technical service for assistance.

4. Why doesn’t the battery charge?

If the battery does not charge fully, double-check the following issues:

  • Each battery charger comes with a troubleshooting guide, so check for possible solutions to the problem there.
  • Ensure that the battery charger is properly connected to the electrical outlet. Try another outlet to see if it will charge elsewhere. Check that there are no blown fuses, and that full current is reaching the battery charger. To do this, try charging with another rectifier. If these actions fail, note the battery charger serial number, and contact the technical service number.
  • Double-check that your charger is connected to an outlet with the properly rated voltage.

5. Why isn’t the squeegee working?

If the squeegee isn’t properly draining the floor clean, double-check these issues:

  • The squeegee’s rubber edge is worn so it does not completely contact the floor. In this case, replace the squeegee. Turn or replace the blades.
  • Check if the squeegee hose is blocked or damaged.
  • The squeegee works with the suction hose to remove water from the floor, so check if the connection between the suction and the squeegee is damaged.

6. Why doesn’t the suction work?

If the suction motor pulling the squeegeed water from the floor does not work, it may be one of the following problems:

  • The switch to the suction motor is faulty. Contact technical service.
  • The motor fuse may be damaged.
  • The suction motor cable may have been inadvertently disconnected. Reconnect it if this is the case.
  • The vacuum motor may be damaged. Again, contact technical service.

7. Why doesn’t the battery work for the appropriate amount of time?

If the battery work time has shortened unexpectedly, try the following:

  • It’s possible that the battery has not been connected to the charger for enough time, or that the charger has been improperly connected to the machine connector. Ensure that all connections work properly.
  • Run 10 charging cycles and measure the time. If the batteries do not improve, they are exhausted and need to be replaced.
  • Look at the battery poles and connections. If they are dirty or oxidized, they will not charge properly and may need to be replaced.
  • If the battery itself seems fine, check other electrical wiring connections between the charger and the electrical supply to ensure there aren’t any broken connections.

8. Why won’t the detergent flow stop?

The detergent should only flow when the machine is engaged, so if it continues to flow, check the following:

  • If the tap is damaged or dirty, it may not close properly when the cleaning process is finished. Keep the tap clean and free of obstruction, and have it repaired if it is damaged.
  • A dirty or faulty solenoid valve may also cause detergent to keep flowing, even after the machine has stopped. Contact technical support.
  • If the filter cap is missing or not fully closed, the detergent may flow out. Check that the cap is present and completely closed.

9. Why isn’t the brush rotating?

If the brush isn’t rotating as it should, check the following things:

  • Ensure that the battery is properly charged, or that the power supply is connected to the mains.
  • Check and reconnect the power supply connector.
  • Press the brush lever, then press the brush button.
  • If you are using a ride-on scrubber dryer, ensure that you’ve pressed the brush button to engage the brush motor. If that does not work, there may be a blown fuse or a motor malfunction. Contact technical support if that is the case.

Regular scrubber dryer maintenance keeps you up and running.

The most important way to prevent these issues is to do a maintenance check of all your scrubber dryer components regularly. Following best practices can keep your scrubber dryer cleaning your business beautifully for years. Some general things to keep in mind:

  • Check that all battery and charger connections are always clean and well-maintained.
  • Check for wear and tear on brushes, pads, squeegee blades, filters, flaps, and caps on a regular basis.
  • When not in use, store the scrubber dryer in a clean, safe, secure location.
  • For battery-operated versions, recharge the batteries every three months.
